SPM, you must do something about bot spam on forum, otherwise the community will stop reading what you have here because of the mess.

Thinking better, I'm almost giving up to follow this forum.

We are working on it!

We changed over to a different user validation and it seemed to help for a while but didn't solve the issue. I assure you the guys are doing their best to find a solution.

And they are doing a good job. Having run small forums before i understand how hard it can be to stop, but the spam is noticeably disappearing, it is just an uphill struggle because it keeps coming back.

I've personally banned 8 people today alone and deleted by hand over 500 posts. Believe me, I want a solution much more then you guys do :)

How about capping newbies at X posts per day/hour?

I think restricting the amount of posts new subscribers can make isa good idea. Limit it to something like 2 an hour or 5 a day. That's enough for someone (who is genuine) to make an account, ask a question and ask for clarification or say it's been covered. The probationary period probably only needs to be 2 or 3 days, and temporarily instituted at that. An apology during sign up about the temporary means would likely be enough to inform actual people of what's going on and why it's restricted.

I will suggest that. I am not sure how friendly the forum software is to those kinds of things.

Also, if that was up when you first joined Grau I bet you would have been upset ;)

Nah, I can be patient, but I'd have wanted an explanation. If you simply say that your forum has anti-spam provisions that limit newbies to 3 posts /day, I can live with that.

3 posts per day might be a bit rough for people who are genuinely excited to be here. An hourly limit, sure but a daily limit might be a bit much.

Also the limit just helps keep the damage down per user, but these bots are very happily making dozens of users so that may or may not do anything. What kind of captcha is in place? I know you mentioned it being changed, but some are just ineffective and some work perfectly. Might need to change it again, or if you've run out of options start adding new captchas

This spambot joined today, and threw up 49 spam posts? Isn't that at least 45 too many for someone's first 24 hours?

Shadow ban them, if they don't now their posts aren't being seen they wont change id's.

Okay. I think I got rid of it all again, but if you find any more spam posts, please report them.

We tried something like that this week, but it clearly didn't work the way we had wanted it to.

We will be looking into it again on Monday.

We want this resolved even more than you do.

Ugh. After a year, and your post, I just realized there is a micro-noticable "Report this post" button on the lower right of each post. Thanks.

Haha yeah it sure is hard to notice, when reporting spam on my mobile I kinda have to guess where the button is.
