I've been slowly working my way through the massive collection that is SDE and getting some models painted. I thought I'd share some of my paint job here. I have to admit that some of the extreme highlights, especially when it comes to hair, did not come out in the pictures. If anyone has suggestions for how to improve the accuracy of the pictures I'm open. Perhaps when I get my light tent set back up the pictures will look better. So starting with the Villians and Monsters: Roxxor leads off the bunch: Followed by Rock Gut; and the Herald of Vulcanis Fire Hounds Blaze Beetle Which brings us to the heroes. I picked the painting order of the heroes through the best gamer means possible, I painted what my wife and daughter found cutest (and wanted to play most) first. I threw a model for myself in there as well, but mostly what they like first. Calico Kate Hexcast Sorceress Fae Alchemist Candy and Cola Princess Ruby Royal Warden Barbarian Celestial Herald

Nice work! Maybe if you can put a piece of paper behind the model it might do something for the camera work you asked about.
I like them, though. Keep it up.

I got the light tent out and along with painting up some more models I grabbed pictures. I've already gone back to the previous post to update with the better pictures. Here's some new models as I work through my collection: All the Chests Some Spawning Points and the spawner I always forget because I've not played with Turtles yet Wyrmlings Whelps Hatchlings and FIRE Captain R and the Succubus Paladin Deeproot Scout Sapper Dwarf Fighter Dwarf and my Twilight Knight I was actually a bit surprised at how much of my yellow extreme highlights on some of the models did not show up well on the camera. This is especially evident on Princess Ruby and on my Paladin.

Those look nice!
If you are using a zoom on your camera, don't go beyond the point where the digital zoom kicks in. That's sometimes why the image is a little grainy.
Other reasons as well, but I'm definitely not an expert! lol
Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful stuff. My only complaint is that the paint looks to be applied very heavily, but that could just be the camera talking....

Thank you to everyone for the feedback and responses, it's all greatly appreciated! I got some more painting done this weekend along with playing around with the settings on my camera. It looks like the pictures are a bit better, the graininess seems to have been removed. It looks like it was being inserted due to some of the settings, which are changed now. I'm not so sure on the "thinkness of the paint" comment, I'm painting with the same thinned paint I use for my models from other games. i wonder if using solid colors and less blending on these models makes the paint look thicker, or if it is indeed the pictures themselves. As it's something that I am conscious of when painting, it's something I try to keep an eye on. Here's the same Glimmer Dusk Ranger as before, taken with the new camera settings: And here are a load of the Kobolds I had a friend paint up for me: Rex Dragon Priests Flingers Gougers Knuckleheads Iron Scales And then back to my own painting with Starfire Lastly, I am starting into my Von Drakk Manor set to make sure I have a fully painted game for our family Halloween Party this year. The Dust Coven Necromancer (who we have renamed "Hit!") is the first off the line.

Your monsters look spot-on, but your heroes look a little flat. I'm not sure if its the camera or not. Maybe, for the hair on heroes try drybrushing a little white as a shine.

@Salaura thanks, I agree with you on the heroes. Especially on the yellow hair, it's like the highlights I work in is completely lost with the picture. What's strange is Princes Ruby specifically. In person the white highlight in her hair almost looks out of place, just on the edge of being to harsh. In the picture it's almost non-existent overall.
I was hoping the new camera settings would fix that, but I they don't do as much as I would like. The highlights on the Ranger did not come out, and the Sister of Light I painted with fairly flat hair so I expected she would be harder to see highlights on.
Grrr.
Thank you for the feedback, I 'm continuing to work on them.

Trucking along and working on my collection of undead for my upcoming Halloween party. I'm not overly loving these guys but here's a quick look. Death Spectre Dread Knights Shadow Mode Candy And I took a group shot of the Von Drakk stuff I have painted up so far. Overall I think they look pretty good together although I'm struggling to love them individually.

Still working through my stuff for Haloween. I took Odingrandsons paint scheme for Von Drakk, although I didn't get anywhere near as nice looking as his. Von Drakk Nocturne Both together
