So I got the Deeproot Wolf Rider for Christmas and I noticed that you can see from in his artwork that there was supposed to be a bedroll and backpack on the back of the wolf saddle. The sculpt marks on the actual model are also a bit of a give away that it was planned, God knows why they dropped it in the final product (would love some info on why). Anyway I actually rather liked the original design so with the aid of my bits box I set about recreating it! Et voila!

I believe it was mentioned somewhere that the bags were removed due to issues with them breaking of or something of that nature. The post was linked in one of the many Deeproot Wolf Rider complaint threads on the General SDE forum. I'll have to see if I can find it. (Edit: I found it here)

I like the design for the saddle bags you added though. Makes me wish I could find some putty to use to make my own bags for the Wolf Rider.

Great job on adding those bits. Really improves the character on the miniature. It bugs me that it looks like something is obviously missing right out of the box with that mini. They could have at least given us the missing bits for us to glue on. Can you give a breakdown of where you got those from? I recognize the backpack and the 2 pouches as Imperial Guard and Space Marine bits. Where do you get the bedroll and the quiver from?

They could at LEAST have resculpted the wolf so the "glue part here" area wasn't there. This model will forever be a black mark in the SDE history.

Slushosaur did a good job at covering it up though.
The quiver especially fits the theme well.

I'll consider buying Deeproot "only" after finding someone that would be willing to make me such kind of saddle. i'll put it on the model myself though.

Most of the pieces are from Games Workshop products, the side pouches are old Space Marine accessories, the large pack is from a Cadian Heavy weapons team (grenades on the right side were chopped off), the roll is from a Lehman Russ Tank and the only separate piece, the quiver, was from a set of Mantic Skeletons. Not sure how many of them are still available or how cheap they would be, my bits box is pretty old and massive! XD

I'd love to see if those parts work, would you mind keeping us updated?

If they do, whereabouts are you based? If you're willing I may be interested in taking any spare parts off your hands to do the same with my model, providing shipping isn't too expensive etc.

Sadly they don't. The larger bags are good, everything else is too small to be usefully.

Sorry to hear that, that sucks! I've ordered an assortment of parts from one of those 'bits' stores. Hopefully they'll work out.

So the parts I ordered arrived and this is how my Wolf Rider turned out.

I don't think it's quite as good looking as Slushosaurs, but definitely better than seeing the chunk missing from poor Wolfies back! Thanks Slushosaur for giving me some motivation to fix the miniature :)

Do you have a problem finding green stuff?

Yep. Can't find any at my local hobby store, and I don't really want to order any online.

I used Model Magic from Crayola. You should be able to find that at any Michael's or craft store. Seeing as it was a simple bedroll that I made, it worked just fine. Once painted, you won't even know the difference.

Why not though? You can get 36'' of green stuff on ebay for £7.
You are not letting your FLGS down by buying online if they don't carry the stuff you want. :)
