 Some ideas for stuff for heroes to do if killed?

One of the issues I came across in the game while playing with friends is that there's always the chance of a hero or two getting killed off in the early stages of the game when they're super un-equipped. I usually play the consul in classic so I'm not really in danger of that, but I really don't want anyone feeling left out or bored if their character gets killed off and it'll take a while for them to get resurrected by a princess coin. I've considered a few rules to let them keep playing but with a serious disadvantage, but not hold the surviving characters back too much (like taking of turns which they'd need to keep going)) but I haven't really figured out a good set.

So far my best idea has been them essentially becoming a ghost, able to do normal actions and can't equip loot. I feel like they should be afflicted by a couple of status effects at all times as well and have some effects so that they don't hinder enemies' movement. I'm not totally sure how to balance that though. So does anyone have any good ideas to alter that, or just something so they can participate and not just sit around with nothing to do?

check out the last few posts of the lootimeter thread for a few tips on princess coins.
a harder variant (depending on your style of play) would be to hand out one single princess coin before the game and leave it at that.

The ghost idea is not bad. Super Bomberman springs to mind where dead players can still throw bombs from the sideline.
Make a ghost profile with sub-par stats. The dead hero will have something to do, but it's weak enough to not really alter the course of the game.
If the heroes are losing big time a weak ghostly hero won't change that.
I made a quick example:

Heroic Spirit
Spirit Hero

Move - 7
Action - 2

Immune: all, Fly

STR - 2 blue
ARM - 2 blue
WILL - 2 Blue
Dex - 2 Blue

Heroic Spirit can't be wounded by any attacks or affected by any status effects.
However to keep it's connection with the mortal realm there must always be a living hero anywhere on the board.
If no living heroes are present the Heroic Spirit is destroyed.

Heroic Spirit can equip equipment, but won't gain any benefits from it.
Potions and auras can affect the Spirit Hero like normal.

Enemy models can move through Heroic Spirit but must end their movement in an empty square.

Heroic Spirit can be changed into it's former Hero by spending a Princess Coin.

Suggestions for a "Ghost Heroes" in games

Ghost heroes have 0 wrath, 0 health and 0 potions, hearts and potions on offensive roles do not result in potions or health being gained.
Ghost heroes cannot be given loot, treasure or potions.
Monsters killed by ghost heroes do not generate loot.
Spawning points drop dungeon keys instead of princess coins.
Mini bosses don't drop any rewards.

When a hero dies they become a ghost hero
Ghost heroes resurrect (ie revert to normal rules with full health) when mini bosses are killed.
If all the heroes are ghost heroes the consul wins the game.

I haven't play tested it, but it lets players keep playing, but makes being a ghost rather unappealing...

If anyone decides to give this a go, please let me know how it goes...

If I remember rightly in the default version you don't start with any but get one each time a spawning point is destroyed.
