 Battle boxes Still Valid?

So I did the $150 pledge and was hoping to start getting my Doctrine and Black Diamond factions going with some deals from the KS.

I remembered seeing the Battle boxes for both factions and can get them for $25 to $40 on ebay. Is that still a good way to start out with the factions?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My $0.02:

The BD battle box is decent, but with the Relic Knight Pledge, you'll be getting Magnus (the QK in the box). You can get the tank for $8 and the new version of the Diamond Corps for $20. It would have the paper queue and the tokens, but you can get the tokens for $10, and while the paper queue is nice, it's not necessary. I'd say skip it unless you can get it on the cheap side with shipping if you don't mind have the older, non-upgrade weapon squad of Diamond Corps.

The Doctrine box I would avoid; the Novitiates squad it comes with will only be 3 models instead of 5 that are included in a 2.0 purchase, the Librarian is cheap ($7) on it's own, and while the QK (Delphyne) isn't currently available stand-alone, I'd wait for her re-sculpt since she's rather two-dimensional in pose and her cypher didn't have much detail.

I'd say a better option would be to get a Doctrine Knight, the Novitiates, Scribes, and/or Catalogue (Librarian isn't bad, but I like the Catalogue's stats much more). For Black Diamond, The Diamond Corps, M-8 Blitz Tank, Diamondback, and/or Pythons would be a good choice (And possible a different Knight if you don't like Magnus.) With what you would spend on the 1e battle boxes, you can probably get at least the Doctrine Knight and a minion or two as add-ons; The Relic Pledge has at least one hero unit included for free for each faction, and you can pull from the radiant stuff in the 2-player starter box to fill out more if you want to play larger games without spending much more than that. The starter box will have cardboard punch-out for objectives and tokens, so you won't need a token pack unless you want the color-coordination/plastic sturdiness...

Thanks for the input Major. I"m going through the pledge manager now. I really like Daphne and her cypher but couldn't find them outside the box. Perhaps I'll snag it at a later time.

Glad to help! You are correct that Delphyne was never available stand-alone; all the original Questing Knights were only available in the Battle Boxes; but they should be available as solo purchases once they are re-released.
