 Compel AoE timing

Gabe used Deep Crow Nest to create an AoE with Compel 6.

Compel is described as an After Action Forced Move and in the timing list, goes in step 11, after the unit's action. But in the case of a unit that triggers the AoE effects including Compel during their move, it seems more sensible to apply the Compel as soon as the AoE is triggered.

So when does it it fire?

(We bent the rules. The unit moved, took damage and was compelled, finished it's move , etc, etc).

You have the timing correct, but I've always viewed similar situations thus:

Unless the AoE specifies differently, when a unit enters an AoE, the AoE effect immediately triggers (p13 1.5 alpha). This creates new action that interrupts the current active unit - usually this is just a static effect that gets applied or checked, but in the case of Deep Crow or Fang Trap, this is an attack; resolve the attack as if the AoE was the active unit, then the turn flows back to unit that triggered the AoE.

So, as far as I understand the rules, you played correctly.
